WHAT IS THE VERMONT FOOD BANK?

The Vermont Food bank stands as the sole food bank in the state of Vermont, operating as an independent non-profit organization affiliated with the national Feeding America network of food banks.

Their core mission revolves around the collection and distribution of high-quality food, fostering partnerships to eradicate hunger throughout Vermont. Through a vast network comprising over 320 community partners, including food shelves, meal sites, schools, hospitals, and housing facilities, they strive to ensure that no individual in Vermont goes without nourishing sustenance. In the face of heightened food insecurity stemming from the pandemic, inflation, escalating costs, and various other factors, the Vermont Food bank and its network have been at the forefront, diligently working to guarantee access to essential food resources for everyone.

The food bank distributed 12.6 million pounds of food to communities across Vermont in 2023. Of that, a record 4.1 million pounds was fresh fruits and vegetables, and 49% of the food distributed was fresh food (produce, meat and dairy). You can learn more about their work at www.vtfoodbank.org.
